Who we are

An all-volunteer team for the eastern Lakeland fells

We're Fell End Rescue Team — ordinary people who drop what they're doing when someone gets into trouble on the hill. Plumbers, teachers, nurses and shepherds, all unpaid, all on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Every year we answer around 90 callouts across the eastern Lake District, reaching most casualties within 27 minutes of the phone ringing. We receive no statutory funding, so the kit, the vehicles and the training that get people off the mountain are paid for entirely by the public who back us.

What makes us who we are

No rotas you'd recognise, no clocking off — just a shared commitment to the people who need us on the hill.

Always on call

24 hours a day, every day of the year, our pagers can go off at any moment — and we go.

Fast to the casualty

An average of 27 minutes from the call coming in to the team being on the hill.

Trained and equipped

Hundreds of volunteer hours and donated funds keep our skills and kit ready for anything the fells throw at us.

Rooted in the community

We're local people who know these valleys, and we're here for walkers, climbers and neighbours alike.
